The Night Before Christmas

I wrote the following as a Christmas message to all, inspired a bit by the book by Clemont C. Moore, and mostly from The Gospel of Luke. I apologize to any real poets who might read this!

Twas the night before Christmas when all through the land,

People were traveling to their hometown, just as Caesar had planned.

The children of Israel were unsettled in their beds,

While hopes of the Messiah danced in their heads.

Joseph from Nazareth and his betrothed, Mary, with child,

Went up from Galilee to Bethlehem to be registered and filed.

And then the next day, there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the watch of my sheep, to see what was the matter.

The star in the sky was so bright and so clear,

The Glory was so great, it gave me reason to fear.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But an angel of the Lord who spoke loud for all shepherds to hear.

Fear not, I bring you good news of great joy,

The Savior is born, just a sweet baby boy.

He is wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger,

There was no place for Him in the inn, so there He rests out of danger.

And then in a twinkling I heard from the sky,

Praises to God from the heavenly host up high.

“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

The host’s declaration certainly put all our hearts at ease.

Then the angels went to heaven leaving us in the field.

So to Bethlehem we traveled, for our hearts were convicted to yield.

And just as was told, there we found Mary, Joseph and Child,

And as we looked on in awe, all we could do was to smile.

We remembered everything that the angel had said,

And thus to all those around us, the news we did spread.

After our visit we then returned to our sheep,

Glorifying and praising God for the Truth we would keep.

I share this story with you that you may also believe He is the Light,

So, Happy Christmas to all, And to all a good night.
